The Bastille Crack (October 4,
2005)
On a cold october morning, the
day after his arrival from Italy, the poor jet-lagged Stefano is lured
into a difficult climb: the Bastille Crack (5.7). It is one of the best
moderate climbs in Eldo, but is very athletic and being for the first
day in altitude and eight hours jet lagged is not exactely what you
would define "ideal conditions". But when I have something in my head I
can be very convincing, as Stefano already knows....
So what follows is what we
made of a chilly early October day in Eldo. A very enjoyable route, a
decent weather, great reward at the end.
Stefano following the first
pitch, right above the infamous traverse (or chrack switch).

And
finally we are on top, after some chocolate (or was it an energy bar?)
Exhausted but happy, ready for the next adventure!
And
on the way down (which we take on the long loop, so that we can enjoy
views) we take this shot of the Bastille, with some climbers climbing
up the Crack.
