Expected Astrophysical Information About Massive Black Holes from LISA
Peter Bender (JILA) - 27 Sep at 12:00 noon
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission is being planned
jointly by NASA and ESA, with a target launch date of 2011. It will be able
to study in detail gravitational waves at frequencies from about 3x10^-6 Hz
to 1 Hz, and has 3 main scientific objectives. One is to learn about the
formation and growth of intermediate mass BHs. A second is to use MBH-MBH
coalescences as possible tracers of mergers of pregalactic structures, out to
high redshifts. And the third is to study coalescences of stellar mass BHs
with MBHs in galactic centers.
The seminar will be held in JILA S-105.
