Supernova Light Curves

As everybody knows, SNIa light curves are very good standard candles.
But what about all the other SNe -- SNII, SNIb,c, etc?  Their peak
luminosities vary by more than two orders of magnitude and the shapes
of their light curves are all over the place.  Why?  Are there any
underlying principles?  I think so, as I will try to explain in this
talk.
